Wine Valleys of Mendoza

Mid morning reception at Mendoza, center of Argentina’s wine making, and transfer to your lodge. In the early afternoon we visit award winning winery Achaval Ferrer, and explore the concept of terroir while tasting wines produced at different altitude estates. Rest of the day & evening leisure to explore Mendoza’s top culinary options.

The central valley of Mendoza is historically the birthplace of Argentina´s wine making tradition, which started over a century ago from both Italian and Spanish immigrants. We will visit first Mendel Wines, a small winery known for the exceptional quality of their wines, where we will learn about their process of vinification, both at the vineyards, and the cellars. Then we will continue to Catena Zapata. The winery, of outstanding architectural design, is recognized as the pioneer of quality winemaking in Argentina. Afterwards we make our way to Ruca Malen winery to enjoy Chef Lucas Bustos´ five course pairing menu in sight of Cordon del Plata snowed peaks (19574 ft). Afternoon transfer back to the lodge and relax away.

Our first morning stop is at Paul Hobbs´ VIña Cobos, producer of some of the country´s best Malbecs. Later on, our tasting experiences continue at the old fashioned producer of extra Virgin Olive Oil, where we learn about the secrets of the pressing & decanting process. Lunch on own at the quaint village of Chacras de Coria. Early afternoon scenic drive by the foothills of the impressive Cordon del Plata mountain range, to the Oasis of Uco Valley.

Due to its unparalleled soil and climate conditions, Uco valley came to world recognition during recent years, earning a reputation as the gem of all Argentine wine regions. At Clos de los Siete, the 1600 acre joint wine adventure initiated a few years back by France´s top winemaker Michel Rolland, we visit two wineries, tasting full body Premium Malbecs at Cuvelier de los Andes, and enjoying a lunch of exquisite local favorites at Diamandes Winery. Afternoon return to the lodge and leisure away.

Enjoy a leisure morning, walk through the vineyards and learn about fruit plantations, or opt for varied soft outdoor activities at the valley. Then we make our way to La Azul, a true garage Winery, where we sample their Gran Reservas directly from the barrel. What follows is hands on for a cooking class of the favorite regional treat, delicious empanadas! Lunch at the winery, with astonishing views of the surrounding peaks of the Cordillera Principal. Afternoon leisure and dinner at the wine lodge. (*) (**)
