Cultural, Food & Wine Experience, 5 days / 4 nights

TRIP OVERVIEW

A true epicurean adventure, as well as a journey through the country´s superb Cabs, Carmeneres and Whites. On day of arrival we first learn about Chile and its people as we walk to the city´s main historic sites. On the following morning we celebrate a true immersion in the Chilean flavors & cuisine, as accompanied by a local Chef we explore the Fish Market, and on to the Kitchen to be guided into the preparation of delicious local recipes. Our trip continues with two nights at a magnificent Wine Hacienda in Casablanca Valley, from where we visit the seaport city of Valparaiso, with its old funicular railways and a well-deserved reputation among foodies.

Lodging: 2 nights at Santiago´s exclusive boutique properties, 2 nights at a Casona Matetic, (Matetic Vineyards- Casablanca Valley).

  • Guided by a local Chef, immerse yourself into Santiago´s popular Fish & Fruit Markets, and enjoy a private cooking class while learning the secrets of good Pisco Sour.
  • Taste premium wines at Santiago´s most notable Wine Bar.
  • Lodge at luxurious Hacienda Matetic , in Casablanca Wine Valley.
  • Explore by foot and old funicular railways the Port City of Valparaíso, a true Foodies heaven.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive in Santiago

Upon arrival at Santiago´s airport, we are met and transferred to our hotel to freshen up. We spend the early afternoon on an easy walk through Santiago,its traditional and modern districts set against the scenic backdrop of the Andes. We walk to the historical center, its Plaza de Armas and Cathedral, and a few steps up to enjoy sweeping views of the city from Santa Lucia Hill. Along the way we stop at the City´s most relevant Cafeterías and Emporio La Rosa ice cream shop (“…among world´s top 25“ -The Daily Meal) to sample unique local flavors, and finish with a wine tasting paired with some Tapas at Bocanariz, Santiago´s most renowned wine bar.

Evening at leisure, or explore Santiago´s varied dining options.

Day 2: “There is no better way to get to the heart of any city than through its cuisine. And that means not just eating, but shopping for it, and cooking it “ Taylor Holliday, New York Times.

We start savoring the morning, first at the Mercado Central, Santiago’s celebrated fresh fish market, listed by the National Geographic among the Top 10 Food Markets in the world, and we continue then to La Vega, the popular fruit and vegetable market and the perfect place to discover new flavors.Then, on to the kitchen, where our chef-instructor will guide you through the preparation of simple but delicious Chilean recipes and reveal some of her culinary secrets, her knowledge of the local culture adding an energetic dimension to the class. Later on, it is time to relax over lunch, our dishes complemented by excellent Chilean Wines.

Day 3: Ocean Breeze Wines of Casablanca Valley

This morning we drive west for about an hour into Casablanca Valley. The valley benefits from a cool ocean breeze that makes this terroir a perfect one for some of the best Sauvignon Blancs and Chardonnays produced in the country. In the morning we make our way to Matetic Winery, where we check in at the Wine Lodge before visiting the winery and tasting their premium wines over lunch. This afternoon we head for Viña Emiliana, producers of organic wines. During the visit we learn about the organic and biodynamic agriculture. Return to the lodge and enjoy local Pisco Sours by the pool.

Day 4: Port city of Valparaiso

Morning drive to the coastal City of Valparaiso. Historically the main port of Chile, and built almost entirely on steep hills, the city holds a well-deserved reputation among foodies. From the upper hills, we board the old funicular railways and enjoy time for lunch at one of the vibrant local spots. Later on we wander through town admiring some stunning graffiti & street art work. In the afternoon we drive east, back to Casablanca Valley.

Day 5: Transfer to Santiago airport

After breakfast at the lodge you will be transferred to Santiago International Airport to board flights to your next destination.
